My baby girl (age 'almost' 18) finally got a summer job...a real one. She is going to be the receptionist at the law firm of a friend of mine...so, here is how it happened...I ran into my friend, Marty, at Starbucks last week and he asked what was new with me. I said that Bonnie had graduated and we were trying to help her find a job and did he know of anything. He said that they were trying to hire a new receptionist and that they had about 100 applications. I said that they could hire Bonnie for the summer and that would give them plenty of time to do a good job of interviewing, etc. (so they wouldn't be rushed). He said he would consider it. I had Bonnie fax her resume to him. He liked what he saw and called her. He hired her. Yeah. She is thrilled and I am thrilled.
Now for my political rant...I can't believe the non-stop Reagan-was-such-a-great-Pres BS that is on the US airwaves. Yeah, there were some good things about him but this is the guy who wouldn't utter the word 'AIDS' while people were dying, who cut off benefits for low-income citizens, who raised the deficit so high that we went through a major recession...I mean, COME ON!!! Yeah, he was old and now he is dead, but he was no saint. No one is.
Great news for us, my husband, John, was elected to be a Kerry delegate to the Dem Convention in Boston in July. He is very excited. He really deserves the honor, too. He is running the Veterans for Kerry group in Oregon. He also was the person running the Kerry campaign here in Oregon till they sent a staff person to the state. So, yeah John!
I worked at the Democratic Convention in New York in 1976, when I was 19. I was working on a Congressional race on Long Island that summer and fall (taking a break from college) and got the chance to work at the convention. It was an awesome experience.
